About this course

This foundation course explains how Shariah governance supports credible Islamic capital-market activity in Pakistan. It follows the full lifecycle of a Shariah-compliant claim: design, approval, documentation, implementation, monitoring, audit, disclosure and rectification. It uses practical examples from companies, Sukuk, collective investment schemes, pension funds, Modarabas, REITs and brokerage services.
Important boundary: The course explains the framework at a foundation level. It is not a Shariah ruling, legal opinion, investment recommendation or substitute for the current law, the relevant offering document, or advice from a registered Shariah advisor and other qualified professionals.

What you'll learn

  • Explain the purpose of Shariah governance and why compliance is continuous rather than a one-time label.
  • Recognise the main parts of Pakistan’s SECP-regulated Shariah governance framework and how it sits alongside sector-specific laws.
  • Distinguish the responsibilities of the governing body, management, Shariah supervisory board or advisor, compliance officer, and internal and external audit.
  • Trace a product or security from concept and Shariah review to launch, operation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Identify essential systems, records, disclosures and controls for different Islamic capital-market activities.
  • Apply a disciplined response to possible Shariah non-compliance and avoid common misconceptions.
